The film delves into the musical and social scene of those years, exploring the influence of punk and hardcore subcultures on the shaping of a new, rebellious, and creative youth identity. Through the testimonies of its real protagonists, the documentary captures a moment of cultural upheaval where music became a vehicle for freedom and resistance.

One of its central themes is self-management, the way in which the groups and collectives of the time organized themselves outside the record industry, building alternative spaces and defending independence as a way of life. It also addresses the role of the counterculture, that underground movement which, although invisible to the general public, profoundly marked the sociopolitical identity of a generation.

My work behind the camera consisted of capturing the power of those testimonies and the raw, direct, and sincere aesthetic that defines the spirit of punk. What We Did Was Secret is more than a musical documentary: it is a visual chronicle of a time and an attitude, a look at an era in which rebellion became art and a symbol of freedom.
